Glico Caplico Wafer Cookie

Ms. K and I are familiar with the Glico name from their tasty Japanese curry that comes in bar form. So when we discovered this, we thought "what the fuck? try it!". I was hoping for something pretty weird but this is really just a big wafer cookie. What is weird though is the shape...just like how they form their curry, in "tablet bar form"! How uncreative! This has a layer of chocolate and vanilla stuff inside that's rock hard and doesn't really taste like much of anything. You can't really tell from the photo but I assure you, there is a layer. Not much else to tell, a small disappointment.

Morinaga Nama Ramune Gummies - Cola Flavor

I'd first like to state these are like a damn candy tattoo, as I'm sure I'll be tasting them forever. When purchasing them I thought "harmless gummies" but this is Munchies de Sade and we don't play that shit 'round here. These are thermo fucking nuclear when it come to taste. Hours after eating just one small cube I was still tasting the slightly sour cola flavor (not too far off from a 7/11 slushy that's been sitting out for a bit). They're not gummies either yet they live in the same neighborhood. They have sugary grit to them (which I'm sure is top secret proprietary fun time formula) but kind of squishy like a gummy. They're moist as well, probably chock full of cola good feelings or something. I was told they change texture depending on the temperature, so I put one in the fridge and one in the freezer. The fridge gummy almost resembled a softer candy corn while the freezer sample DID NOT FREEZE! Obviously some kind of alchemy is responsible. While I kind of enjoyed these, just keep in mind they are more weapon than treat, a true Boston Baked Bean.

Here we have the legendary "Pocari Sweat", the drink with the unfortunate name. After finally trying it, I think the crazy fucks making this really want it to taste like simulated sweat. Why would you drink that? Because it has a nice citrus flavor! Although, it also has this very strong plastic taste or maybe some kind of aerosol deodorant. It's slightly thick and kind of salty (not too far off from Gatorade). But I keep drinking it! I can't decide if I like it or not, maybe if it was blue....

I don't know if someone has played a cruel joke on me or not but I'm 60% sure this is a dog treat, just as sure that the Japanese characters above "UP!" stand for "THROW". What's the fucking deal here, really?? It stinks like a barn, it's kinda rubbery and has some nearly indescribable fish taste. I'm not sure if the brown lines printed on are suppose to be "grill marks" or extra "flavor" (a cringe worthy flavor that one can only imagine is the taste of that little girl's hair from "The Ring").

What I don't forgive myself for is looking what's actually inside. Is it egg? Is it pure fat? Is it a piece of Sloth's skin from Goonies? Big Katsu is a mystery even Scooby fucking Doo would run from, stay away!

Pepsi - Salty Watermelon Flavor

Pepsi comes out with a couple weird new flavors every few months in Japan. You can only get them in Japan because Pepsi loves Japan and hates us, obviously. I managed to get one on eBay, they're expensive but sometimes someone sells them a little cheaper, you just have to watch. Anyways, despite it's weirdness, it's pretty good. The best way for me to describe it is "Faygo Red Pop" with a "Jolly Rancher" watermelon flavor but maybe a little less sweet. For those of you who've never had a Faygo Red Pop, just think strawberry pop that doesn't taste like strawberry.....just kinda red I guess. I couldn't detect any saltiness, that's probably a good thing. Salty watermelon just screams to be mixed with tequila (it just does!), so I whipped up a little cocktail that turned out a little weird (which is ok because I don't think anyone will ever get to try it).

Kodomo No Nomimono Sangaria Soft Drink

Step aside for wackiness, we present to you:  Kodomo No Nomimono Sangaria Soft Drink. It looks like beer and gets a head like beer but this is a drink from it's own magical kingdom. I originally thought this was some kind of "sangria", just spelled wrong (engrish, what you gone do?). It smells like rubber, a turn off but I've smelled much worse. It has the most bizarre taste, kinda like an artificial beer flavor mixed with apple cider and cream soda. Also, as Ms. K pointed out, it contains TUNA OIL!! Surprises! I have to admit I like it but it confuses me greatly (much like Japan).

Mmmm sparkly appleish Japanese near beer. This is a pretty tasty soda. I wonder what's in this.... ummm tuna oil. Let's just try to forget that. But there's also beer flavouring. Is that a powder? Can you get it in a spray? Where can I get some of that!?!

Okazaki Coffee Jelly

We picked this up because, wtf?! It's coffee in jelly form! It comes in a 3 pack and includes a little creamer (which states coffee fresh, huh?)with each bowl. The first thing it did was spit coffee juices all over Ms. K's art desk when I opened it, but we'll forgive Okazaki because this may be the best product to ever be made....in history. It tastes like...well...coffee, but really good, slightly sweet coffee! I could eat this all day long. The creamer, however, has no taste and is the consistency of soap. To be fair I don't think it was meant to be refrigerated though, I left one on the counter to see if it thins up a bit.

Mystery Ramune, Condom Flavor?

I wasn't sure what the flavor of this was when I bought it, what a risky experiment! It does have what appears to be a condom on the bottle so one can only assume it tastes like Alabama white fish.

After a sample, I'm pretty sure this is the popular "soda" flavor (it is blue for fuck's sake) that Japan likes to magically pump out. It's not bad and it's not too sweet like other "soda" (kinda like cream soda, cotton candy) products I've had. But you know what would make this even better? That's right,  
fuckin' booze!

Binggrae Power Cap Soda Flavored Ice Tube

"Soda", I've come to learn, is a flavor of it's own in Japan. I've had a few "soda" flavored items in the past and they all taste the same. It's kinda like cotton candy, cream soda and bubble gum with a mysterious milky essence (keep your fucking jokes!) but slightly less sweet. The texture is odd, not like a popsicle but a little creamy and mushy. Why is it in a motor oil bottle? Hmmm. I like them regardless. Kind of expensive too, $7 for a bag of six. Did I mention I take donations? No pressure.

Shirakiku Brand Strawberry Ramune

What's with this company? HEY, YOUR FLAVORS TASTE NOTHING LIKE THE INTENDED PRODUCT!!!! Really, it's like soap and cherry kool-aid (which isn't the worst thing in the world, oddly). Don't get any in your eyes for fuck's sake, who knows what fucked up dimension you'll end up in.

Asahi Mitsuya Cider

 Let's first state this a non-alcoholic drink made by Asahi (famous for fantastic Japanese beer). I had no idea they made a soft drink, yet here we are! I should also mention this has absolutely nothing to do with cider either despite the name. It is however, refreshing, not too sweet and kinda like 7-UP. It's really good shit, try some!

Shirakiku Brand Pineapple Ramune

I guess I expected this to taste like pineapple flavored popsicles, it does not. It's more like having someone try and describe the flavor of pineapple without ever tasting pineapple in the first place and throwing some Perrier into the mix....I think that's how they came up with this flavor. Or pineapple enema...perhaps. Probably not even good mixed with booze, and everything is better with booze.

Doritos - Soy Sauce & Mayonaise Flavour

You can smell the mayo kind of but to be honest I couldn't really taste much. These are very mild with a slight sweet and salty flavour. I noticed right away that these are different from the Doritos we are used to here. They seem to be whole grain and they are a little crunchier, even the shape is different. There not bad but I think I like ours better. As for the soy sauce and mayo flavour....needed more of a punch but not bad.

Chee-tos - Sukiyaki Flavoured

Again, not what I expected. Very strange indeed! Smells like a bag of bacon but a little smokier. They taste somewhat like bacon Cpt. Crunch with a hint of soy sauce. The sweetness was something to get used too but I liked it. I expected them to have a cheese flavour thrown in the mix as they are Chee-tos (I think) but these are void of any cheese. Crazy but tasty...

Hokkaido Genghis Khan Caramel - Grilled Lamb Flavour

I gave these a "Good" rating but to be honest, I am disappointed. When I first laid eyes on these things I thought, "Oh shit, I've never heard of anything so gross! I've got to try them!!" (Yes, I wish for things to be gross!!). They're really not that bad, actually, they're pretty good. Think candy corn / Kraft caramels with just the slightest meat taste best described as....yes, grilled lamb. The texture is a little waxy maybe. Oh well, you can't loose them all! Kit Kat - Red Potato Flavour

This is a red potato flavoured Kit Kat from Japan that I picked up on Ebay. I've tried a bunch of Japanese Kit Kats now and they are always good. This one was a little odd in that it didn't taste potato like at all. It kind of tasted fruity and was reddish in colour. Definitely good but I was hoping for some potato taste.

Botan Rice Candy

This is Botan Rice Candy from Japan. I got it on Ebay for a buck. Its a chewy candy that tastes like a mix of orange and lemon. The cool thing about this is that you can eat the wrapper. After you get the candy out of the box and get through the first wrapper. Comes with a sticker! Good.

Kit Kat - Wasabi Flavour

This is a wasabi flavoured Kit Kat from Japan. I picked
it up on Ebay and lemmie tell ya, it was worth every
fucking penny! First, this is a green chocolate bar, so
don't be scared when you unwrap it. The chocolate is white
instead of brown; not sure why, maybe white holds the
flavour better. The wasabi taste is very subtle, nothing
overpowering. There is a great, slight tongue and nasal
burn. Very slight, again nothing overpowering.
